A central theme of integration that promotes innovation has persisted from conceptualization to construction of Mizrahi Development’s new 85-story tower, The One. Soon to be crowned Canada’s tallest building as well as the country’s first supertall building, according to Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat height criteria, the building features a striking architectural design conceived by London-based Foster + Partners with the Toronto firm Core Architects. Located at one of Toronto’s most prominent intersections, the building serves as a link between two communities, the downtown business district and the city’s fashionable Yorkville neighborhood.

The focal point of this presentation is demonstrating how the structural design formulated by RJC Engineers was further enhanced through a robust design-assist process with Walters Group to dramatically improve project objectives and how early trade contractor involvement will serve as a model for the future. This presentation—the second installment of a two-part series fully titled, “All for One? We Prefer…The One for All!”—focuses on showcasing best practices employed during the design, fabrication, and installation of the project. Primary topics to be covered in this segment of the series are the application of the ArcelorMittal-sponsored, CTBUH research on composite megacolumns; compelling highlights from the project design, fabrication, and installation timeline; and an overview of the intense modeling and coordination exercise employed to streamline the execution of the structural design.
